Adding your own contact fields

Every contact has the same standard fields, plus tags and notes:

  • Profile: First name, Last name, Salutation, Preferred name, Pronouns, Email, CC email, Company, Job title, Phone, Mobile phone, Preferred language and Date of birth
  • Address: Address lines 1, 2 and 3, City, State / region, Postal code and Country
  • Social profiles: Facebook, X (Twitter) and LinkedIn

The standard fields come with Mint and can’t be renamed or removed. Custom contact fields let you keep anything else you need about people, such as dietary needs, an account manager or a membership number.

Custom fields belong to your whole organisation. Each one appears on every contact, and any registration form can fill it in.

  1. Open the contact fields

Go to Contacts and select the Contact fields tab.

  2. Select Add field

It’s in the Custom fields card.

  3. Give it a label

The Label is the name your team sees, for example “Dietary needs”.

  4. Choose a type

See the table below. You can’t change the type later.

  5. Add the options (choice fields only)

For Single choice and Multiple choice, type the Options, one per line.

  6. Select Add field

Type Holds Good for
Text Any text Dietary needs, account manager
Number A number Membership number, number of employees
Date A date Membership renewal date
Yes / no Yes or no “Wants the newsletter”
Single choice One of your options Region, T-shirt size
Multiple choice Any of your options Interests

The CSV column shown next to each field is the column heading to use when you import contacts. A column named after the field’s label works too.

You can have up to 100 custom fields.

Select the pencil icon next to a field to change its Label or Options. Removing an option doesn’t change values already stored on contacts.

Select the bin icon to delete a field. The value is removed from every contact, and registration questions saved to it stop updating contacts. The form builder marks those questions Needs fixing so you can make them event-only questions. It does the same for a question offering an option you’ve removed from the field.

To collect a value when people register, add the field to your registration form: in the form builder, select Add contact field and choose it. See Form builder.

The question is set up to fit the field, so every answer can be saved:

Field type Question
Text Short text or long text
Number Number
Date Date
Yes / no Yes / No choice, or a tick box
Single choice Dropdown or single choice, with the field’s options
Multiple choice Multiple choice, with the field’s options

For choice fields you can untick options you don’t want to offer, but you can’t add new ones. Each time someone answers, their answer updates their contact. An empty answer is skipped, so it never wipes out a value you already hold.

Questions you add with Add question stay with that event only.

  • The contact’s page, in the Contact fields card, where you can also edit them. Every change is recorded in the contact’s History.
  • Add contact, so you can fill them in when you add someone by hand.
  • The contacts list filters: choose the field under Field to find contacts by its value.
  • Contact exports, with a column for each field.
  • Manage my registration: when a guest changes their registration, linked questions are filled in with the newest details from their contact.
  • The guest list: the answer also shows under Registration answers when you open the guest on that event.

Answers to linked questions are left out of the answers summary in the confirmation email, so personal details aren’t repeated in email.

Only the Admin role can create, edit and delete contact fields, because they affect every contact and every registration form in your organisation. Other roles don’t see the Contact fields tab, but everyone who can edit contacts can fill the fields in.
