Personalising emails with merge tags
Merge tags let one email speak to each guest personally. You type a tag such as {{guest.first_name}}, and each guest sees their own first name in its place.
Tags work in an email’s subject, preview text and message, and in the link of its button.
Add a tag
Section titled “Add a tag”In the email composer, place your cursor in the message and select a tag from the list of tags under it. Hover over a tag to see what it shows. You can also type a tag yourself, including in the subject. See Writing an email for the rest of the composer.
About the guest
Section titled “About the guest”| Tag | What it shows | Example |
|---|---|---|
{{guest.first_name}} |
The guest’s first name | Alex |
{{guest.last_name}} |
Their last name | Morgan |
{{guest.full_name}} |
Their first and last name | Alex Morgan |
{{guest.email}} |
Their email address | alex@example.com |
{{guest.company}} |
Their company | Acme Inc. |
If a guest has no first name, {{guest.first_name}} shows “there”, so “Hi {{guest.first_name}}” still reads “Hi there”.
About the event
Section titled “About the event”| Tag | What it shows | Example |
|---|---|---|
{{event.title}} |
The event’s name | Spring Summit |
{{event.date}} |
The day the event starts | Thursday, 14 May 2026 |
{{event.time}} |
The time it starts, in the event’s time zone | 6:00 pm GMT+1 |
{{event.venue}} |
The venue’s name | The Glasshouse |
{{event.address}} |
The venue’s address | 1 Canal St, London |
| Tag | What it links to |
|---|---|
{{event.url}} |
The event page |
{{guest.rsvp_link}} |
The guest’s personal RSVP link to the event page |
{{guest.virtual_link}} |
The guest’s personal link to the virtual venue |
{{event.manage_link}} |
Manage my registration, where guests sign in with their email address and confirmation code |
{{event.calendar_link}} |
The event as a calendar file (.ics), to add it to their calendar |
{{unsubscribe_url}} |
The guest’s unsubscribe link |
There’s no ticket page to link to: the confirmation email is the guest’s ticket. The old {{guest.ticket_link}} tag now shows nothing, and a button that used it is left out.
Every email already ends with an Unsubscribe link, so you don’t need to add {{unsubscribe_url}} yourself. The one exception is an email in the Import HTML format: if your HTML doesn’t include {{unsubscribe_url}}, Mint adds an Unsubscribe link at the bottom.
Check-in QR codes
Section titled “Check-in QR codes”| Tag | What it shows |
|---|---|
{{guest.qr_code}} |
Your QR codes: the guest’s check-in QR code, with its check-in code under it, and their plus-ones’ too if they registered any. On in-person and hybrid events, for guests with a place |
Use it in any email guests might bring to the door, such as the reminder, which includes it already. The confirmation email doesn’t need it: its registration details already have everyone’s QR codes.
Tags only for the confirmation email
Section titled “Tags only for the confirmation email”These two tags are filled in only in the Registration confirmation email, which is sent when someone registers. In any other email, and in test emails, they’re blank.
| Tag | What it shows |
|---|---|
{{registration.code}} |
The guest’s confirmation code, for signing in to Manage my registration. It never changes, so every confirmation email shows the same one |
{{registration.summary}} |
Their Registration details: a table for them and one for each of their plus-ones. See Registration details |
The confirmation email includes {{registration.summary}} already. If you take it out, it’s added back at the end, so the person who registered always has everyone’s details.
Registration details
Section titled “Registration details”{{registration.summary}} shows a heading, Registration details, and then a table for the person who registered, followed by one for each of their plus-ones. Each table has:
- Their name, at the top. On the table for the person who registered, their confirmation code follows their name. Plus-ones under 18 are marked “(under 18)”.
- Ticket: the ticket they hold. A plus-one on the waitlist shows On the waitlist.
- Check-in: their QR code for the entrance, with its check-in code under it for when images are blocked. On in-person and hybrid events, for people with a place.
- Online: their personal Join online link, on online and hybrid events.
- Answers: their answers to your registration form’s questions.
- Sessions: their agenda (every Included session, and the Optional sessions they chose), with the day and time each one starts.
- Extras: the extras they added, with how many of each.
A section with nothing in it is left out. For example, someone who answered no questions has no Answers section, and an event with no sessions has no Sessions section.
For people given a place from the waitlist, who haven’t chosen sessions yet, a Choose your sessions button follows the tables. See Sessions on waitlist events.
A plus-one’s own confirmation shows only their own table, without a confirmation code.
When a tag shows blank
Section titled “When a tag shows blank”Tags never show as code in a guest’s inbox. When there’s nothing to show, the tag is left blank. This happens when:
- the guest’s details don’t include it, for example
{{guest.company}}for a guest with no company, - the event doesn’t use the feature, for example
{{guest.virtual_link}}on an in-person event, - you’ve used a confirmation-only tag in another email,
- the tag is misspelt or doesn’t exist.
