Creating an event

You create every event from the Events page. You only need a name to start. Everything else has a sensible default and can be changed later.

You need a role that can create events. By default that’s Admin, Group Manager and Event Organiser. If you don’t see the New event button, ask an admin.

  1. Open the New event dialog

Go to Events and select New event. The Create an event dialog opens.

  2. Name your event

Type an Event name, for example “Spring Customer Summit”. It needs at least two characters.

  3. Fill in the basics

Choose the format, time zone, date and times, capacity and venue. See The fields below. The event starts three months from today and runs from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, so change these to suit. For an event over several days, tick Multi-day event.

  4. Pick a template

Under Template, select the page you want to start from. See Choosing a template.

  5. Select Create event

Mint creates the event as a Draft and opens its Overview tab. From there you can set up tickets, the agenda and registration before you design the page. When you’re ready to work on the page, open the Website tab and select Design.

The event starts in test mode: nobody can see it until it goes live, apart from people you share its preview link with, and anything collected before then is test data. See Publishing an event.

Field What it does
Event name The name guests see on your event page and in emails. It also sets the page’s web address, which you can change later in Settings.
Format In person, Virtual or Hybrid. Virtual and hybrid events get a virtual venue, where guests join online.
Time zone Shown as a city and its offset, for example “Madrid (GMT+1)”. The offset matches the event’s date, so summer time is taken into account. It starts on your organisation’s default time zone.
Capacity The most people who can attend: the limit on the event’s General admission ticket. Leave it blank for Unlimited. See Limits and capacity.
Date The day of the event. It starts three months from today.
Start time and End time When the event starts and finishes, in the event’s time zone. They start at 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. The event must end after it starts.
Multi-day event Tick it for an event that runs over more than one day. Date becomes Start date, and an End date appears, set to the next day. The start time is on the first day and the end time on the last.
Venue and Address Where the event takes place. These are hidden for virtual events, which show Online instead.
Brand kit Applies your organisation’s colours, fonts and logo on top of the template. Your default brand kit is chosen for you. Choose The template’s own to use the template’s own look.
Group Which team or department the event belongs to. Choose Whole organisation if it isn’t for one group.
Template The starting page for your event: its blocks, theme and custom CSS.

Templates come from your organisation’s template library. Each one creates a starting page, with its blocks and their example content, and sets the colours, fonts and corners. Pick the closest match; you can change everything in the designer later.

Each card shows the template’s name and description, the blocks it starts with, and its colours. With a brand kit chosen, the colours shown are the brand kit’s, because those are the ones your page gets.

Your library starts with these, though the people who manage it may have changed them or added your own:

Template Best for
Blank An empty page with simple styling: build it block by block.
Minimal Clean white canvas that lets your content lead.
Conference Bold, high-contrast layout with agenda and speakers.
Gala Elegant serif typography for dinners and receptions.
Meetup Friendly and colourful for community gatherings.
Webinar Built for virtual sessions with a countdown and video.
Product launch Dark, cinematic hero for launches and keynotes.

Your organisation’s default template is selected unless you choose another. It starts as Minimal.

The event gets its own copy of the template, so later changes to the template don’t change your event.

When you create an event, Mint also prepares:

  • A set of emails under the event’s Emails tab, each with a suggested send time based on your start date:

    Email Sent to Suggested time
Save the date Invited guests 6 weeks before
Invitation Invited guests 3 weeks before
Registration confirmation Each guest when they register Automatic
Reminder Attending guests 1 day before
Virtual access link Attending guests (virtual and hybrid events only) 1 hour before
Thank you Guests who checked in 1 day after
Sorry we missed you Guests who didn’t come 1 day after

Apart from the confirmation, these are drafts. Nothing is sent until you schedule or send it yourself. See Event emails.

  • Its own registration form, asking for First name, Last name and Email. Add questions, or start from a form in your library, on the Registration tab. See The registration form.

  • Registration settings. The page is open to anyone with the link, the waitlist is on, and registration closes when the event starts. See Deadlines.

  • An event reference, shown as Ref in the event’s header. Quote it if you contact support.

The event’s Overview tab has a Setup checklist that walks you through the rest. Set up tickets, the agenda and your registration form whenever suits you:

  1. Design your event page: open the Website tab and select Design. See Event page designer.
  2. Go live: publish your page, test it with the preview link, then switch on Website live. See Publishing an event.
  3. Add or import guests: see The guest list. Do this after going live: guests added to a draft are test data, deleted when the event goes live.
  4. Send your invitation: see Event emails.

For a tour of the event’s tabs, see Your event at a glance.
